Confidence Bay has its own unique double-conversion power system. An onboard 5.5-kilowatt generator allows the suite to function in the most remote of locations. The generator is tied into the vehicle’s 75-gallon gas tank. At a typical load, it can power the vehicle and computer equipment for three days before needing re-fueling. External power can also power the facility. Before any of this power reaches the edit systems, it’s converted to DC, fed into a bank of 8 deep cycle batteries, and then converted back into AC using a pure sine wave inverter. Through this process any spikes, sags, or other power glitches are eliminated so they can’t effect the editorial equipment. This power system can even weather a full blackout and the gear wouldn’t miss a beat.
